Shura Island, also known as Shurayrah Island, is the flagship development of The Red Sea Project, one of the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism ventures located off the western coast of Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea. Covering an area of approximately 5.6 square kilometers, Shura Island lies at the heart of a pristine archipelago of over 90 untouched islands and is shaped like a dolphin, making it a naturally iconic location.
The masterplan for Shura Island was designed by Foster + Partners under the concept of “Coral Bloom”, a design philosophy that blends the built environment with the island’s natural landscape. The development includes 11 ultra-luxury resorts operated by renowned global hotel brands such as Hyatt, Four Seasons, Edition, Raffles, Fairmont, InterContinental, and Jumeirah. These resorts are designed to offer exclusive and immersive guest experiences, from overwater villas to beachside retreats, all while preserving the delicate marine and island ecosystems.
The island will also feature an 18-hole championship golf course called Shura Links, a world-class marina, and a vibrant beachfront promenade with restaurants, retail outlets, and cultural spaces. A 1.2 km causeway bridge will connect the island to the mainland, making it Saudi Arabia’s longest water bridge.
What sets Shura Island apart is its commitment to sustainability. All developments are powered by 100% renewable energy, with no connection to the national grid. The design emphasizes low-impact architecture, energy efficiency, and biodiversity preservation. No single-use plastics will be allowed, and the entire island is being developed with a zero-waste-to-landfill goal.
